 The Taste of Christmas is an annual community-wide celebration kicking off the Christmas season with all of the traditional sights, sounds and 'Taste of Christmas'. People are welcome to come and go during the day & take in the festive atmosphere. Over Four  thousand people visit throughout the day and that number continues to grow every year.

 


 

The tag line of the event is
"Peace on earth, good will towards men."
It underscores the larger purpose of the event which is
to bless those in need as we celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. The event will benefit three local charities as well as Waupaca area schools.

How can I get involved?

 

Groups, churches, businesses, and individuals from across the greater Waupaca area are invited to participate in some way as they demonstrate "Good will towards men." Participation in the Taste is a great way to help attract new members and customers to groups and businesses as guests take note of all those who helped make the Taste of Christmas a success.   1. Festival of Trees:  Businesses, groups, or families can sponsor and decorate a Christmas tree or an antique door to on the main campus. Theme out the tree's to match your business/group. Have invitations, cards, coupons for them to take and find their way back to you. The trees and wreaths will be donated to folks in need, area nursing homes, or someone you may want to designate. The tree decorations can be saved or donated along with the trees.
  2. Volunteer:  Before, during, after the event. The Taste of Christmas would not be the well-run success that it is today without the vision, dedication and hard work of our loyal volunteers. Their work on various committees is the heart and soul of this event!

 

3) On Stage: Groups are welcome to contact us regarding being a part of the festive atmosphere.

 

4) Vendor: Would you like to be a vendor at next years Taste of Christmas?

 EVENT DETAILS:

 

The campus comes alive with the holiday spirit

 


with different areas for everyone to enjoy!

 

Date/Time: First Saturday in December from 10AM - 5PM

 

Location: Spencer Lake Christian Center. 5 minutes south of town on Hwy E

 

Activities: The campus will be decorated to help get visitors into the holiday spirit along with a variety of special things going on for everyone to enjoy:

 

Yuletide Workshop: Step into Santa's workshop, hosted in large part by WHS NHS students, where you can visit and have your picture taken with Santa. Decorate a gingerbread house, make an ornament or write a greeting card to be given to area nursing homes and overseas service personnel. FREE lunch for kids - To access the workshop please bring a canned food donation, new hat/gloves/mittens, or $1 donation per child.

 

Children's Story Corner: Special seasonal children's stories hosted by the Waupaca library throughout the day along with face painting!

 

Festive Music: Local bands, singers, and instrumentalists will play Christmas music all day long across the campus filling the air with the sounds of great seasonal music. Among those performing will be WHS' Madrigals, The Justmann Band, Ron Reynolds, and Shepherd's Quarter.

 

Celebration Hall: Enjoy cuisine from local restaurants as you enjoy singers and bands throughout the day.

 

Classic Snacks: Smell of  Kettle corn, warm cinnamon and other seasonal favorites will fill the air! Sample local favorites like Lefse and Kringles.

 

Holiday Treat Shoppe: A huge hometown bake sale showcasing seasonal favorites from individuals and area bakeries will help tantalize taste buds.

 

Christmas Trails: Horse drawn wagon rides are available for families to build another memory as they sit back and enjoy a ride around the campus while  listening to Christmas music and sipping hot cocoa.

 

Live Nativity & Petting Zoo: Be sure and stop by the live Nativity and see all eighteen animals at the petting zoo; including llamas, sheep, cows, and other great animals.

 

Tinsel Town Theatre: Watch classic Christmas movies throughout the day with popcorn.

 

Veterans/Service Personnel Tribute: During the day a special musical tribute will be done in honor of all of our service personnel - both active and veterans, including police and fire/rescue personnel. King Veteran Home will be on hand with a color guard.

 

Gift of Life Blood Drive: We added a blood drive in 2012 to give folks who may be interested another way to participate in the "Good will towards men" theme in a very tangible life giving way.

 

Red Ryder BB Gun Range: Kids will have fun shooting at snowflakes and other targets to qualify for a drawing of a Red Ryder BB gun like in the classic movie, "A Christmas Story."

 

Star of Wonder Theatre: A monologue is performed throughout the day. It will be an all new story for 2013! You wont want to miss it!  

 

Christmas Shoppe: About twenty-five vendors will be offering great Christmas gift ideas all day long to help people find that special item for those they care about. Featuring Holiday/Tinsel Hair!
 
Teacher Supply Depot: The Teacher Supply Depot is to help provide schools with some extra supplies that teachers typically end up buying themselves to help out students who may need pens, crayons, paper, etc.  School supply donations are being accepted all week long for distribution to area schools.

Bonfires: Adding to ambience of the season, people can warm up next to a bonfire on the main campus and roast marshmallows as they enjoy everything going on and visit with new and old friends.

 

Gift Angel Free Sale: Guests are welcome to shop a variety of items all of which are free for the taking.

 

Closing Celebration: Mayor Smith will be on hand to welcome guests as the "Shepherds Quarter" helps coordinate the closing celebration as classic Christmas medleys are played for everyone to join in and enjoy. New this year is an open invitation to people from all over to join in a community chorus and orchestra which will conclude with the Hallelujah chorus. In addition, a candlelight reading of the Christmas story with live nativity will take place.

 

Light of the World: At the conclusion of the Closing Celebration, everyone will be invited to light off over 100 Chinese lanterns to officially kickoff the Christmas season and signify "Peace on earth and good will toward men."
